Key Responsibilities

  • Collaboration with security researchers and threat engineers to study network-based attacks and develop effective detection algorithms.
  • Perform a thorough analysis of the packet level by using PCAPs and other tools like Wireshark, Zeek, or tcpdump.
  • Assist in the development tests, refining and developing the detection techniques for Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) and Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDS).
  • Assist in the creation of internal tools and automation workflows by using Python.
  • Perform Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) gathering to find new threats, indicators of Compromise (IoCs), as well as tactics, methods, techniques and procedures (TTPs).
  • Participate in the creation of technical documents, threat reports, and response playsbooks.
  • Participate in discussions on technical issues throughout the threat research process and the development lifecycle for the signature.
  • Help in creating mock-ups of attacks to verify the detection capabilities of systems and evaluate their defences.

Eligibility Criteria

  • A recent graduate or student in the final year (2024/2025) seeking an undergraduate or master’s diploma or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Networking, or Cyber Security.
  • A thorough understanding of concepts of computer networking, such as the TCP/IP protocol stack, the OSI model, and techniques for detecting intrusions.
  • Experience with Cyber Threat Intelligence frameworks, like MITRE ATT&CK and knowledge of the most common ways to deliver malware.
  • Knowledge of programming, with a preference for Python, to automatize processes or create custom scripts.
  • Experienced in working with both Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • An earlier exposure to cybersecurity tools like Wireshark, Suricata, Snort or tcpdump is an added benefit.
  • Project or coursework in the areas of network security, packet analysis, and cybersecurity principles is recommended.
  • Outstanding communication capabilities, a keen attention to detail, and an analytical mindset.
