Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain applications: Design, develop and test mainframe programs with COBOL, CICS, JCL and VSAM, which ensures the highest quality of code and reliability of the system.
- Troubleshoot and Debuggle: Resolve job abends in JCL and analyse mainframe systems by using tools such as Xpeditor to ensure maximum performance and minimise downtime.
- Enhance systems: Develop with the top designers to introduce new enhancements and features that are according to the needs of users, that improve system performance and the user experience.
- Document changes: Document code and technical specs should be kept up-to-date. Modifications to improve knowledge sharing and facilitate efficient team collaboration.
- Support Modernisation of Efforts: Assist in migrating old mainframe software to the latest frameworks, such as cloud-based technology, in order to align with the organisational goals.
- Production Support: Use ServiceNow for the management of incidents and changes to ensure efficient management of production support functions.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience with Mainframe Technologies: Proficiency in the development and maintenance of software making use of COBOL, CICS, JCL and VSAM.
- Troubleshooting: Expertise in resolving job abends within JCL and troubleshooting mainframe systems with tools such as Xpeditor.
- Database Expertise: Familiarity with DB2 is essential to manage data interactions within mainframe applications.
- Extra Tools: Knowledge of REXX and Easytrieve is an advantage to improve the capability for automation and reporting.
