TCS NQT 2025 : How to Prepare

Preparing for the TCS NQT requires a strategic approach to ensure you cover all essential areas effectively. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you get ready for the exam, along with a unique course recommendation to enhance your preparation.

  • Understand the Exam Pattern: Familiarize yourself with the structure of the TCS NQT, including the number of sections, types of questions (like coding, verbal ability, etc.), and time limits for each section. Knowing the format will help you strategize your preparation.
  • Identify and List Topics: Create a comprehensive list of all the topics you need to cover for each section. This may include areas such as percentages, ratios, averages, probability, reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, blood relations, analogies, and basic algorithms or data structures.
  • Create a Timetable: Develop a realistic study timetable that allocates specific time blocks for each topic. Prioritize important topics that carry more weight in the exam or where you feel less confident, ensuring you dedicate additional time to these areas.
  • Give More Time to Important Topics: Prioritize topics that carry more weight in the exam or where you feel less confident. Allocate additional study sessions to these areas to ensure you are well-prepared.
  • Practice at Least 5 Coding Problems Daily: Commit to solving at least 5 coding problems every day. This consistent practice will improve your coding skills and problem-solving abilities, making you more comfortable with the coding section.
  • Mock Tests: Once you’ve covered the syllabus, start taking mock tests to assess your readiness. This will help you gauge your speed, accuracy, and time management under exam conditions.
  • Solve Previous Year Questions (PYQ): Practice previous year questions to understand the type and difficulty level of questions that may appear in the exam. This will also help reinforce your knowledge and build confidence.

TCS NQT 2025 Exam Rules

Select the Questions:

  • At the start of each section, take 2 minutes to quickly assess the difficulty level of the questions.
  • Begin with the easier ones, solving them first, and then move on to the more complex questions.
  • This strategy will help you manage time effectively and maximize your score.

No Section Switching:

  • You cannot switch between sections during the exam.
  • You will need to complete the Numerical Ability section in 25 minutes, followed by the Verbal section for 20 minutes, and then the Logical Reasoning section for 25 minutes.
  • The same applies to the advanced sections. Once you finish a section, you cannot revisit it. However, within each section, you are allowed to move between questions freely.

No Negative Marking:

  • There are no penalties for incorrect answers, so attempt all questions.
  • Aim to answer questions accurately to meet the cut-off, but if you’re running out of time at the end, it’s better to mark answers randomly rather than leaving them blank.
  • Since there’s no negative marking, you won’t lose any points for incorrect answers, so take a chance on the remaining questions.

Unlimited Rough Paper:

  • You will be provided with any number of rough sheets during the exam.
  • So use them as per your need don’t hesitate.

Note down the Rules:

  • Each type of aptitude question has specific solving techniques or formulas.
  • Since you’ll receive a rough sheet at least 5 minutes before the exam starts, use that time to note down important rules or formulas.
  • This will serve as a quick reference during the test and help you solve questions more efficiently.

On-Screen Calculator Available:

  • A calculator will be available on the screen, so no need for external devices.
  • For complex calculations, it’s best to use the on-screen calculator.
  • However, for simpler calculations, try to do them mentally or on rough paper, as using the calculator can be time-consuming and may slow you down.

No Question-Wise Timer:

  • There is no individual timer for each question. You can spend as much time on a question as the section’s time allows.
  • Don’t spend too much time on any single question. For complex questions, 2-3 minutes is reasonable, but if it takes longer, move on to the next one.
  • Your goal isn’t to solve every question, but to clear the cut-off by answering as many questions as possible within the time limit.

Section-Wise Timer:

  • Each section will have its own time limit.
  • Once the time for a section runs out, you will be moved to the next section.

TITA-Based Questions:

  • The exam includes a total of 8 “Type-In-The-Answer” (TITA) questions, where no options are provided, and you must type the answer.
  • So practice them as much as possible before the exam.

Sequential Coding Questions:

  • You can only move to the second coding question after submitting the first one.
  • Once submitted, you cannot return to or modify the first coding question.

Mock Test:

  • Mock tests are vital for exam preparation as they help you understand the exam pattern and structure, reducing anxiety on test day.
  • They allow you to practice time management, identify strengths and weaknesses, and develop a targeted study approach.
  • Ultimately, taking mock tests builds confidence and enhances your ability to perform under pressure, making them an essential part of your preparation strategy.

TCS NQT 2025 Things to Avoid

  • Not Solving TCS PYQ: It is very crucial to solve the latest previous year questions of TCS. Because then only you will understand the pattern.
  • Skipping Mock Tests: Don’t neglect to take mock tests. They are crucial for familiarizing yourself with the exam format and improving time management.
  • Overthinking Questions: Avoid spending too much time on difficult questions. If you’re stuck for more than a few minutes, move on and return if time allows.
  • Neglecting Preparation for Coding: Don’t underestimate the coding section. Ensure you practice coding regularly to improve your problem-solving skills.
  • Ignoring Exam Instructions: Always read and understand the exam instructions thoroughly. Ignoring them can lead to mistakes that could impact your score.
  • Relying Solely on the Calculator: While the on-screen calculator is helpful for complex calculations, try to solve simpler calculations mentally or on rough paper to save time.
  • Not Managing Time Wisely: Avoid spending too much time on one section. Stick to the section time limits to ensure you can attempt all questions.
  • Leaving Questions Blank: Since there’s no negative marking, avoid leaving questions unanswered. Make educated guesses if you run out of time.
  • Underestimating the Importance of the Verbal Section: Don’t ignore the verbal ability section. It can significantly impact your overall score, so prepare adequately for it.
  • Being Overconfident or Anxious: Avoid being overly confident or anxious. Maintain a balanced mindset, and remember that preparation is key to success.
  • No Proper Sleep: Try to sleep properly day before the exam. Because it will impact your performance in the exam hall.
