IITs Blacklist More Than 20 Companies for Rescinded Offers 2025
IITs Blacklist More Than 20 Companies: IITs have banned more than 20 companies from the 2025–26 placement season because those companies pulled back or changed job offers made to the previous group, mostly for tech and analytics jobs. The decision is a coordinated effort by several IITs to keep students safe from last-minute offer cancellations and pay cuts that hurt their careers.
What really happened | IITs Blacklist More Than 20 Companies
More than 20 recruiters who made offers in the last school year later took them back, sometimes just days before the start date in June or July. Many students who had already accepted an offer were left with no backup options when the placement season ended because they were no longer eligible for campus drives.
The ban applies to companies that pulled offers from more than one IIT, not just one campus. A lot of these companies are in the data analytics and software industries, which have had a lot of ups and downs in the job market over the past year.
How IITs decided the blacklist
A professor who worked on placements said that coordinators from about 15 IITs checked their records against each other to make a list of companies that were companies Jinhone offers cancel. Some recruiters had already done things like this before, and six to seven IITs had already banned them individually before this joint action.
The list includes companies that either completely cancelled offers or cut the pay package by a large amount compared to what was in the offer letter. In some cases, offers were cancelled even though IIT graduates were already working at those companies, which hurt trust even more.
Scope of the ban and what companies can still do
These companies can’t take part in the 2025–26 on-campus placement cycle at IITs, but they can still hire students who aren’t on campus. Placement cells have said that they might also report serious cases, like repeated revocations or pay cuts that are only one-sided, to higher-ups in the company.
At the same time, IITs are trying to get more startups, especially those connected to the Centre’s Viksit Bharat initiative, to hire their students. This will help meet demand and make them less dependent on a few big tech companies. Officials admit that the job market as a whole is slow, but they say that the current season still looks pretty good because they are reaching out to new businesses.
Wider placement trends at IITs
The blacklisting comes at a time when IIT placements are slowing down: the BTech placement rate across the 23 IITs has dropped from over 90% (2012–22) to about 80% in 2023–24. Average yearly salaries have also gone down a little, from about Rs 23.45 lakh to about Rs 22.7 lakh during the same time period. This is because demand has weakened and there is less pressure on pay.
Experts say that this environment is caused by a number of things, such as AI-driven changes to tech jobs, very high pay expectations at the top level, and a lack of hiring in traditional core sectors. Because of these pressures, last-minute offer cancellations are even worse. That’s why IITs chose to respond strongly this year.
